Pdf Summary
The May 2026 Trauma Newsletter highlights National Trauma Awareness Month (NTAM) and encourages injury prevention through the 2026 theme, “Stay Focused. Stay Safe.” The message emphasizes that brief distractions during everyday activities—such as walking, driving, swimming, or working—can lead to preventable injuries, and that staying attentive protects both individuals and those around them.

The newsletter recognizes the American Trauma Society’s appreciation for the full trauma-care continuum, including trauma registry professionals, injury and violence prevention professionals, and trauma survivors. Readers are encouraged to visit the American Trauma Society’s NTAM awareness page to learn about recognition days and ways to participate.

To support community outreach, the NTAM toolkit provides downloadable social media graphics and flyers for injury prevention campaigns. A free May 12 webinar, “Stay Focused. Stay Safe. Addressing Distracted Driving Through Data and Advocacy,” is promoted as a learning opportunity. The newsletter also mentions an NTAM 2026 Safety Pledge, inviting trauma professionals to share their commitment to prioritizing safety and reducing preventable injuries.

At SLU-H, National Trauma Survivors’ Month is observed throughout May. National Trauma Survivor’s Day is May 20, with a “Race to Rebuild” walk beginning at 1 p.m. in the Healing Garden. Participants can register to receive a T-shirt, but everyone is welcome to attend and join a post-walk gathering with light refreshments in Conference Rooms A, B, and C.

National Stop the Bleed Day is May 21. SLU-H will host a blood drive (12–3 p.m., Conference Rooms A, B, and C) and offer free Stop the Bleed classes (1:30–4:30 p.m., Conference Rooms D and E) with a free bleeding control kit for participants. The newsletter reiterates that “Minutes Matter” and notes that free Stop the Bleed training is available year-round through the trauma education team.
