BLS STEMI/Stroke Education
Upon completion of this session, learners will be able to:

STEMI:

1. Identification of cardiogenic shock pre-hospital
2. Differentiate cardiogenic shock from other types of shock
3. Pre-hospital management
4. Recognize high risk STEMI presentation associated with cardiogenic shock
5. Avoid common pre-hospital treatment errors
6. Prioritize rapid transport and early notification

Stroke:

1. Define stroke mimics and explain why they are important in prehospital care
2. Identify common stroke mimics encountered by EMS
3. Differentiate key clinical features of true stroke vs. common mimics using rapid assessment
4. Perform an effective prehospital stroke evaluation
5. Recognize red flags that increase suspicion for true stroke (sudden onset, focal deficits, last known well)
6. Apply appropriate EMS management, including treatment of reversible causes (e.g., hypoglycemia)
7. Communicate critical findings clearly in radio reports and hospital handoff
